Seventy Third Hiqba Following the Revelations of Occulem, Fourth Mahj
Proclaimed by Sheikhs everywhere
Calamity! His Magnanimity Sultan Farrukh, third of his name, has passed!
His diligent physicians and viziers have informed the Court of Nobility that His radiance had braved the wounds inflicted on him in battle with great courage and perseverance, yet could sustain no longer. Having been under their care since his return to the fabled city of Ruya, these past days have at last paid yet another dire toll upon our wondrous realm. Banners and standards abroad have been doused in bogwater to signify the dampened spirits of all Ibeshi peoples, as the year of resumed mourning extends. All vessels of the Sapphire Fleet have furled their sails for fourteen nights of solemn solidarity, while the commons have expressed their grief with the rare sight of communal tears.
Emir Rashid, himself deep within the twilight of his years, has assumed the role of royal steward and has overseen the processions that await that of his grandson, Sultan Nasir. A man grown and eldest male heir of the late Sultan Farrukh, he is to take up Sayf Altun, Sword of Discernment and token of rule over the marshlands. To be anointed in the ashes gathered from Mount Haraq and proclaimed second of his name, at last taking his place upon the seat of reeds in mystical Ruya once this time of woe has concluded.
Whispers however have spread of the turmoil that may await Sultan Nasir, considering the horrific loss of the sacred Hyadina. The sanction and ceremony that is crucial to their place in the Sultanate is presently absent, divine recognition being potentially delayed or passed on until such a time as three souls blessed with the greatest of sight can be found. Time will tell whether the son can measure against the father, yet the emirs have stirred once more from their brief respite so swiftly interrupted after the failed War of Avengement.
