Rumours in the ports and coastal cities of Khrom-Vestria speak of an ongoing battle at sea between Port Steilkuste, Vestria and Port Yuhgasvhili, Khrom, between their own ships. Sailors say that sea patrols are at their lightest and others say they saw boarding action taking place between Khrom and Vestrian warships. A retired captain in St Yuellasburg suggested that if the rumours are to be believed, then the skirmish was organised, and is not a mistake, as squadrons across Vestria left their ports and sailed for the border at roughly the same time. He was unconscious after downing his beer. Drunk rambling or not, it sounds as lucid as a Lunatic considering the sightings of Khrom-Vestrian runners delivering sealed messages to courts across the realm. Rumours tend to have a kernel of truth within them, but to an insider, a stir of this kind is unprecedented. Although unorthodox, the Dual Monarchy remains popular amongst the aristocracy of the Realm.

As a response to the news of piracy in the eastern seas, the Dual-Monarchy recognised a potential endangerment to its new trade era. In response, the navies of both constituents organised a series of naval war games focused on drilling their crews in boarding action and search and destroy missions. The exercises were a modest success in that the Khrom-Vestrian fleet is no longer green as grass, but no training could ever substitute crossing blades with screaming Ibeshi corsairs high off rum, billum and battle. On land, a Khrom general has supreme command over a unified Khrom-Vestrian front, so too will there be an autarch of the fleet. The newly appointed Lord Admiral Godfrei Tulmar will command the Combined Fleet. This new era of prosperity will be upheld by a careful balance. In one hand, a bow and in the other hand - a quill.
