Recent expansions in trade sparked by Fanhorim's involvement in the founding of Shimeji as the trade city and the need to source edibles have seen a substantial growth in jobs for those who deal solely in trade. This has caused some unrest as many traders feel their voice is not properly spoken for on the council with regards to international diplomacy and commerce. The decision of whether or not to reform the council and who would occupy the new seat took many weeks of debate.
Eventually a conclusion was formed in that the Merchants Guild would now have a seat on the new Council of Eight, with Thenmír Arken of Arken Glin Exchange holding the seat. Arken is well versed in economics from his experience in having run Arken Glin Exchange for 15 turns and his position does not require him to partake in voyages to other lands which would vacate the council as many of the merchant-shipowners would.
It remains to be seen exactly how this will effect Fanhorim-Dûr going foward, but for the time being it would seem the policies are heading in a direction contrary to the previously strong isolationist stance.
