Following recent innovations in smithing that allow us to forge with diamond we are now able to mine the previously impenetrable material, obsidian. However upon attempting to use obsidian in the forge, a smith discovered something peculiar. When the smith heated the obsidian to great temperatures and formed it into a closed ring, it created a sort of swirling purple film in the middle. Curious, the smith attempted to touch the swirling film only for their finger to disappear into it instead of going through as one would expect and their finger felt very warm as if it was held close to the forge. Panicked, they removed their finger from the ring and immediately brought it to The Academy for us to investigate. We are very puzzled at this phenomenon and don't know what to make of it. For the time being we have advised all miners and smiths to be wary of working with obsidian and to report anything abnormal to The Academy.
